Memorial Art became a political football with the design of the Vietnam War Memorial, but it has been so before…again, we are talking there as much about architecture and Design as the usual concept of Art, which keeps bringing us back to such topics as landscape and the human body

A lot of Memorial Art follows what I would call either the traditional devotional (religious) references or those of what I call Socialist Realism.

This sculpture of the kneeling Firefighter in prayer is both representational and stylized, and of course in the Socialist Realist style basically

Wall sculpture down near Ground Zero in Manhattan of Fireman during the Sept 11 catastrophe is likewise heavily in the Socialist Realist vein
