Backlash grows against TSA ruling allowing knives on planes

Transportation Security Administration announced that airline passengers will be able to carry pocket knives on board starting next month.

Senators and flight attendants are rallying against the legislation that will end the ban of small knives, souvenir baseball bats, golf clubs and other sports equipment on planes.

outrageous and I’m hearing outrage from flight attendants throughout the country. This cannot stand, said Sara Nelson, Nike Roshe Run Flyknit 844833-001 Men Black White Malaysia Price vice president of the Association of Flight Attendants.

Nelson said flight attendants need support to make sure their workspace and the travel space for millions of passengers is safe. flights can carry on knives with folding blades not longer than six centimetres and no wider than 1.3 centimetres.

A ban will also be lifted on stowing hockey sticks, golf clubs and pool cues on board, to fall in line with international standards.

After more than 10 years on the no fly list, the TSA argues that removing the ban removes a distraction for screeners.

The [screeners] really need to be looking at the kinds of threats that are significantly more lethal than a two and a half inch blade, said former National Transportation Safety Board chair Mark Rosenker.

There has been a gradual easing of some of the security measures applied to airline passengers since the stricter regulations were put in place in 2001.

In 2005, the TSA changed its policies to allow passengers to carry on small scissors, knitting needles, tweezers, nail clippers and up to four books of matches. The move came as the agency turned its focus toward keeping explosives off planes, because intelligence officials believed that was the greatest threat to commercial aviation.
